Protective Measures to Safeguard Roads During Storm Events
The storm damage prevention project focused on stabilizing slopes and mitigating erosion risks along Gibraltar Road (mileposts 0.1 to 7.0) and E. Camino Cielo (mileposts 0.1 to 10.0) in Santa Barbara County. High-performance flexible growth media was hydroseeded across 66,800 square feet of steep slopes to prevent erosion. Additionally, 600 square yards of plastic sheeting were installed as temporary coverings to shield vulnerable areas from water and debris damage. To control runoff, 1,220 linear feet of gravel bags were deployed, while sandbags reinforced berms and slopes at critical sections, ensuring stability and road safety during storm events.
- Hydroseeding/Hydromulching: Stabilized 66,800 sq. ft. of slopes with flexible growth media to prevent erosion.
- Plastic Sheeting: Installed 600 sq. yards of temporary cover for water and debris protection.
- Gravel Bags: Deployed 1,220 linear feet to direct water flow and mitigate runoff.
- Sandbags: Reinforced berms and slopes with new and replacement sandbags for added stability.
